This sermon study was a one message study that looked at the overall theme of Paul’s letter to Philemon—that he wanted him to continue being a refreshment to others, and a refreshment to him, by being a refreshment to this runaway slave, Onesimus.
Refreshing Relationships
This letter by Paul is his shortest one. However, it may just be the most explosive, in terms of impact. He writes this letter to Philemon asking him to receive, forgive, and serve the runaway slave who did him wrong and fled. And that very servant was the one who carried the letter. It’s a messy situation! Yet, Paul teaches how we can display the gospel through forgiveness and reconciliation.
